The Budget Session of the 16th Assam Legislative Assembly is scheduled to commence on July 6 and continue until July 31, with the state government set to present its Budget for the 2026-27 financial year on July 10.

According to the tentative calendar released by the Assam Legislative Assembly Secretariat, the session will begin with customary legislative business, including obituary references, the laying of official reports, introduction of government bills and consideration of supplementary demands for grants.

A major highlight of the session will be the presentation of the Annual Financial Statement on July 10. Through the Budget, the government is expected to outline its fiscal roadmap for the coming financial year, including revenue estimates, expenditure plans and policy priorities aimed at driving the state's development agenda.

Following the Budget presentation, members of the Assembly will participate in a three-day discussion from July 13 to July 15. The debate will provide legislators an opportunity to scrutinise budgetary allocations, review sector-wise spending proposals and discuss the government's economic and developmental priorities.

The Assembly will then adjourn for a brief recess from July 16 to July 21. During this period, the Departmentally Related Standing Committees (DRSCs) will examine the demands for grants submitted by various government departments and prepare their recommendations.

Legislative proceedings will resume on July 22 with detailed discussions on departmental expenditure proposals and voting on demands for grants. On July 23, the House is expected to complete voting on the remaining demands and take up the Assam Appropriation Bill, 2026, which seeks legislative approval for government expenditure during the financial year.

The latter part of the session will focus on government business, private members’ resolutions and private members’ bills. Legislators are also expected to deliberate on a range of public welfare, governance and development-related issues affecting the state.

With several key financial and legislative matters on the agenda, the Budget Session is expected to play a significant role in shaping Assam’s economic priorities, governance framework and development strategy for the year ahead.

The discussions and decisions taken during the month-long session are likely to influence policy implementation, infrastructure development, welfare initiatives and administrative reforms across the state in the upcoming fiscal year.
