The Assam government has announced a ₹2,750 crore education reform initiative aimed at transforming the state’s school ecosystem by constructing new infrastructure, enhancing teaching quality, and addressing student dropout rates.
Under the new plan, 400 schools and 1,733 Anganwadi Centres will be established or upgraded across Assam, with a strong emphasis on early childhood development and equitable access to quality education, officials said.

The investment will focus on training teachers, improving classroom management, and promoting science and technology education. According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the initiative is part of a broader strategy to modernize learning environments and align them with national education policy goals.

“We are committed to bolstering the education system in Assam so that every child has the opportunity to thrive,” said Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, who shared details of the plan through official channels. He emphasized that curbing dropout rates remains a top priority, especially in rural and economically weaker regions.
