At a ceremony held at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in this city on Friday, Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria presented the state’s civilian awards—Assam Baibhav, Assam Saurav, and Assam Gaurav—to 21 individuals.
The honours were granted to the individuals in honour of their remarkable achievements in the areas of business, agriculture, tourism, the arts, sports, and culture.

Dr. Tapan Kumar Saikia received the Assam Baibhav Award, the state’s highest civilian honour, in appreciation of his contributions to the fields of public service and health care (particularly cancer treatment).
Dr. Saikia is a famous oncologist currently serving as the director of cancer science at Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre in Mumbai. He is originally from Naharkatia in the Dibrugarh area.
Five individuals—Krishna Roy (mobile theatre), Gilbertson Sangma (football), Nayan Moni Saikia (lawn bowls), Binoy Kumar Saikia (science), and Sashidhar Phukan—were given the Assam Saurav Prize (healthcare and public service).
Also, 15 individuals received the Assam Gaurav Award in appreciation of their exceptional efforts in a variety of sectors.
Free lodging in state government circuit houses, guest houses, and Assam Bhawans, invitations to official events as distinguished guests, Rs 2 lakh in medical expenses for the treatment of critical diseases, and free transportation on ASTC buses are just a few of the benefits of receiving the awards.
In attendance at the event were the Assam Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, prominent government officials, and a number of notable figures from other fields.
