APSC Scam: Main Suspect Rakesh Paul Receives Bail in the APSC Fraud

Rakesh Paul

The Gauhati High Court has agreed to Rakesh Paul’s bail request. Paul is the main suspect in the “cash-for-jobs” fraud at the Assam Public Service Commission.

On Friday, the high court granted Rakesh Paul’s request for bail in a case brought by the Bhangagarh Police Station regarding the Agricultural Development Officer (ADO) bribery issue.

For the eighth time in December, the special judge’s court rejected Paul’s bail request in the cash-for-jobs fraud.

Paul has been given bail in three new cases that have come up since the last time he was arrested.

At the hearing on his bail application, the court is said that it was not the right time to let him out on bond.

It should be noted that one of the two candidates for the position of ADO, Bedanta Bikash Das, admitted to paying a bribe of Rs. 50,000 to Rakesh Paul, the then-APSC Chairman, in order to be hired.

He filed a case at the Bhangagarh Police Station against the other applicant, Mrigen Haloi, and requested that appropriate action be taken against him when he was unsuccessful in getting the job.

For the sixth time in connection with the APSC recruiting scandal, the special judge’s court denied Rakesh Paul’s bail request in September 2022.

Attorney Makhan Phukan spoke for the government and gave the court information about what was going on. The HC had instructed the lower court to complete his trial in six months.

Rakesh Paul, the former head of the APSC, was arrested in November 2016 and put in jail for more than five years.
