Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the Brahmaputra Riverfront viewpoint at Pan Bazar, Guwahati on January 20, Assam Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Ashok Singhal announced on Monday.
The Minister shared pictures of the beautification project at the old Commissioner of Police bungalow site, stating that the location offers “breathtaking views” of the river.
As per officials of the Guwahati Smart City Limited, the larger Riverfront Project stretching 1.2 km from old DC Bungalow to Kacharighat will be completed by March 2024.
The redeveloped zone will feature parks, seating spaces, food stalls, amphitheaters for cultural events and more along a 1200 meter promenade facing the mighty Brahmaputra.
The Riverfront is slated to become a major tourist attraction and public space for citizens right in the heart of Guwahati city, promising scenic views and recreational facilities for all to enjoy.
Authorities have stepped up preparation for the high profile inauguration next week in the run up to India’s Republic Day celebrations. The event is expected to showcase Assam’s rich culture and development strides to visitors from all over the country.
