An Alliance Air flight on the Guwahati–Kolkata route made an emergency landing at Guwahati airport on Wednesday after encountering a technical issue mid-air, airline and airport officials confirmed.
Flight 9I756, which took off from Guwahati at 1:09 pm, was forced to return shortly after departure. Airport authorities declared a full emergency at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport at 1:42 pm as a precaution, according to officials.
The aircraft landed safely at 2:27 pm, and the emergency was withdrawn at 2:40 pm. “All passengers were deboarded safely, and necessary arrangements were made. An internal investigation is currently underway to ascertain the cause of the issue,” Alliance Air said in a statement.
A spokesperson for LGBI Airport confirmed that both passengers and crew members were unharmed. “Passengers were safely deboarded and assisted by terminal staffers. While the airline coordinated alternative onward travel for the passengers, LGBIA’s terminal operations team remained on standby to provide all necessary support,” she said.
Officials said the airline is providing onward travel assistance to affected passengers, while engineers are inspecting the aircraft.
The cause of the technical snag has not yet been disclosed.
