The 77th session of Asom Sahitya Sabha started today at Pathsala in Bajali district of Assam. It will continue for five days in the Bhattadev Kshetra of Pathsala.
This session of Asom Sahitya Sabha started with the inauguration of Namghar at the convention venue on Friday morning. Today,’Me-Dam-Me-Phi’ program is also organized at the convention venue during the day. On the first day, a literary discussion has also been held on the topic ‘Bhattdevar Katha Sahitya’ (Prose of Bhattadev). In the afternoon, the executive meeting of Asom Sahitya Sabha will be held. After this, a cultural program will also be organized.
On February 1, the 2nd day’s programme will begin with the flag hoisting of the Asom Sahitya Sabha at 8:45 am. After this, many important meetings of the Sahitya Sabha will be held throughout the day.
On February 2, i.e. on the third day of the session, a grand cultural procession will be taken out with the newly-elected president of Asom Sahitya Sabha, Dr. Basanta Kumar Goswami. Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma will be present as the chief guest in the first open meeting to be held on the same day.
Various literary discussion sessions, cultural functions, drama conferences, science literature conferences, programmes for youths, women, farmers etc. folk-cultural conference and many important meetings are scheduled during the session days. The 77th Pathshala Session of Asom Sahitya Sabha will conclude on February 4.
First session of Asom Sahitya Sabha was in Sivasagar
Asom Sahitya Sabha was established in 1917 with the efforts of many eminent litterateurs and literature lovers of Assam, and its first session was held in Sivasagar. Padmanath Gohain Barua was the first President of Asom Sahitya Sabha. At present, a full-fledged session of Asom Sahitya Sabha is held every two years at some place in Assam. Similarly, a special annual session is also held every two years. In 1987 also, Asom Sahitya Sabha had its convention in Pathsala and at that time the president was writer Mahendra Bora.
